Presentation

  • “In the beginning, I just wanted to tell a love story.” To do so, Angélica Liddell, sits around a ping pong table, in the company of Lola Jiménez, Fabián Augusto Gómez Bohórquez and Sindo Puche, who had already accompanied her in her preceding creation: “Cursed be the man who trusts in men”: an Alphabet Project. Ping pong, in which Chinese players excel, is a sport subject to strict rules and those who practice it must observe a rigorous discipline. You also need discipline to learn the Chinese language, as did Angélica Liddell, who places it today at the heart of her play: “A colossal task to support despair.” In this show, the theme is love, but a contradictory love: that of Orpheus for Eurydice whose death, through love, he is responsible for a second time; for Angélica Liddell that death of China, governed by a regime that contradicts any quest for beauty and freedom. “That's why I talk about my love for China, because the more you love China, the sadder you feel, because China doesn't exist, China is the destruction of China;” In China, Angélica Liddell feels so foreign, so alone, that she finds a certain peace there, a paradoxical freedom. Because Ping Pang Qiu is also the fruit of another apprenticeship: that of solitude. CV
