Presentation

  • Weaving the words of Pascal Quignard and the notes of Benjamin Dupé's composition, this show is at once a concert and a reflection on music. Playing with the oscillation between listening and understanding, a polyphonic and playful mechanism appears, creating effects of interferences, reactivity, detachment, humour, dizziness, enthusiasm, power... To the depth of the text, erudite and sensitive, responds the architecture of the music. To its surprising form, between meditation, conference, speech, tale, and confession, respond the virtuosity of the musicians and ability of the sound to change from one moment to the next. To the title La Haine de la musique (Hatred of Music), the composer responds the only way he knows how: by making music that echoes, that moves deeply. Because as Pascal Quignard writes, “it just so happens that ears don't have eyelids...”

    Benjamin Dupé :

Often questioning the act of listening and the role of the listener, this composer and guitarist pays very close attention to the techniques he uses (writing, performance), the forms he invents (concerts, musical theatre), and the human relationships that are at stake in the act of musical creation.

    Pierre Baux :

This actor tirelessly works with words and turns his body into an amplifier for a complex and poetic language, be it that of Paul Claudel, William Shakespeare, Olivier Cadiot, or others. The need to make texts heard is also what motivates his work as a director, directing for instance works by Francis Ponge and Fernando Pessoa.
