Antoine Laubin invites Axel Cornil, Thomas Depryck, and Jean-Marie Piemme to explore questions around the word Heimaten, the plural form of Heimat, or “homeland” in German. The four Belgian writers explore the different meanings of the word and use this opportunity to compare their backgrounds, calling on actors of various national origins to act scenes out. In Avignon, two Belgian actors play and dialogue with two German actors, shaking up the theme to observe it under different angles. What is our relationship to our origins? To what extent do our language and the places we grew up in determine our identity?
Antoine Laubin
Antoine Laubin founded the company De Facto in Brussels. Combining stage writing and work on the text, he has developed a form of theatre that tells stories and questions the world in a dark and playful way, at once pessimistic and joyful. Since 2009, he has written and directed Les Langues paternelles, Dehors, L.E.A.R., Le Réserviste, Démons me turlupinant, and Szénarios, his first experience with international creation. He is also co-editor of the magazine Alternatives théâtrales and has taught dramaturgy and the dramatic arts at the École supérieure des Arts of Mons.
