Joëlle Léandre's legacy includes the African American revolutionary movement of the 70s—a child of free jazz, seen as a music “freed” from written tradition—the philosophy of American composer John Cage, as well as oral music and 20th-century European art music. Guilherme Garrido shares the freedom of those young creators who come from so-called contemporary dance, and questions our understanding of the world through his desire to explore the intimate and the relationship to the other on the stage, through his humour and his love of “disruption.” Fire sparks—always of the holy kind—fly when those two unique stories collide.
Guilherme Garrido
A choreographer and a dancer, Guilherme Garrido is most interested in the relationship between dance and events such as television shows, films, or rock concerts. He often says, with his trademark humour, that he is but a showman masquerading as a contemporary dancer. A faithful acolyte of Pieter Ampe, with whom he has toured extensively, he is also the director of the multidisciplinary festival A Porta, in Porto. Active in both northern Europe and in his native Portugal, he presented “Try Romance” for Marseille-Provence 2013.
