Leningrad. A summer in the early 1980s, when Lou Reeds and David Bowie records were sold under the table. Mike and his beautiful wife Natacha meet young Viktor Tsoi, future leader of the band Kino. Surrounded by a new generation of musicians, they will change the course of rock'n'roll in the USSR.
Russian filmmaker and theatre director Kirill Serebrennikov has been involved in a Kafkaesque trial since August 2017, accused of misappropriation of public funds by the authorities. In Europe and throughout the world, many artists have been lobbying Russian authorities for his release.
